In details if we look then we will find 11 types of network,below they are listed:
1.LAN : Local Area Network,this the most widely used one which connects several computers and devices together for better platform to share information.
2.PAN : Personal Area Network , this is a basic network that connects one person in one building with a wireless modem.
3.WAN: Wide Area Network is the complex version of LAN, it connects several computer at longer distance.
4.MAN: Metropolitan Area Network,this is smaller than WAN and larger than LAN.It covers a particular area like a campus or town.
5.WLAN: Wireless local area network functions like a LAN but uses wireless network technology.
6.CAN: Campus Area Network is larger than LAN but smaller than MAN.These can be used over several areas like universities.
7.SAN : Storage Area Network are networks with very high speed that connects storage devices with several devices.
8.SAN : System Area Network, they act as single system providing high speed connection in server – server application.
9.POLAN: Passive Optical Local Area Network,it splits optical signal from a single mode optical fibre into multiple signals to serves users and devices with the help of splitters.
10.EPN: Enterprise Private Network, mainly used by business to safely and securely transfer data to servers.
11.VPN: Virtual Private Network,through this people can remotely connect to private networks and share and receive datas.

Network can usually be classified in five types..
1) Private Network: some networks are designed specifically for and used completely by individual organization. They are called private network. The communication equipment that forms the network is purchased or leased in the name of the organization.
2) Value Added Network: This is an established data communication network that owns or lease communication facilities and computers to manage communication. The facilities may include microwave antennas and communication satellites. The owners design and maintain the value added network. They then rent the network simultaneously to many subscribers. It saves time and cost.
3) Local Area Network: A LAN (local area network) is a group of computers and network devices connected together, usually within the same building. By definition, the connections must be high speed and relatively inexpensive (e.g., token ring or Ethernet). Most Indiana University Bloomington departments are on LANs.
4) Switched Network: switched network – Computer Definition. (1) The international dial-up telephone system. (2) A network in which a temporary connection is established from one point to another for either the duration of the session (circuit switching) or for the transmission of one or more packets of data (packet switching).
5) ISDN: ISDN was first defined in the CCITT red book in 1988.The Integrated Services of Digital Networking, in short ISDN is a telephone network based infrastructure that allows the transmission of voice and data simultaneously at a high speed with greater efficiency. This is a circuit switched telephone network system, which also provides access to Packet switched networks.
