I have also faced ubuntu black screen with cursor. This just a Display bug issues with my Ubuntu 20.04. I have followed some steps and cleared my bug issues and that steps might help you to fix your bug.
it’s was the desktop bug problem with lightdm
Press Ctrl + Alt + F4 and then you can get access to terminal by Login with your Username and Password
sudo apt-get purge lightdm
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install lightdm
dpkg-reconfigure lightdm
sudo service lightdm start
sudo reboot now restart to your Ubuntu 20.04. This might work with your Desktop
