There are 3 main elements of DBMS system . Let us see why these are main elements for any dbms system. If you have a database requirement for a project, these elements will get into use. In order to provide function to work in simple way and to simplify work of system designers and application programmers, the DBMS consist of three main areas as given below:
1) Data Definition Language (DDL) :
DDL is used to define the physical characteristics of each record: the fields within the records, and each field’s logical name, data type, and length. DDL is also used to specify relationships among the records.
2) Data Manipulation Language (DML) :
This is a powerful set of procedural commands that allow the programmer to easily store, retrieve and amend data on the data base, using the most appropriate access strategies. DML provides the techniques for processing the data base, such as retrieval, sorting, display, and deletion of data or records.
3) Utilities and Ancillary Software:
It includes physical administration like dumping, logging, recovering etc. Keeps track of data on the data base and dictionary. It reduces effort of system development and implementation by providing powerful generalised facilities such as Report Generators and Query Packages.
