These are three top selling books of all the time:
1. Don Quixote
At the 1st place, we have the famous Spanish novel ‘Don Quixote’ by Miguel de Cervantes. It was first published in 1612 and since then, the book has sold 500 million copies worldwide . The story follows Alonso Quijano, who proves that chivalry will in fact never die. Originally it was seen as a parody of the chivalric romances.
2. A Tale of Two Cities
At the 2nd position, we have the very famous ’A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. The novel is set in London and Paris before and during the French Revolution. It tells the story of the plight of the French peasantry demoralized by the French aristocracy in the years leading up to the revolution. The corresponding brutality showed by the revolutionaries toward the former aristocrats in the early years of the revolution, and many unflattering social parallels with life in London during the same time period. It tangles all these events with the lives of all the major characters in the novel.
3. The Lord of the Rings
At the 3rd place we have the very famous ‘The Lord of the Rings’ by J. R. R. Tolkien. It is an epic fantasy novel that tells the story of a quest undertaken by Frodo and the Fellowship of the Ring: Gandalf the Wizard; the hobbits Merry, Pippin, and Sam; Gimli the Dwarf; Legolas the Elf; Boromir of Gondor; and a tall, mysterious stranger called Strider. The opening lines to the readers read “One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them”. It has converted the book into a multi-million dollar earning movie series with the same name. The Hobbit, which was at number 7 in the list, is the pre-equal of Lord of the Rings.
