i too got this question what happens if i export chat on whatsapp,but as i exported few whatsapp chats i came to know what is export chat option in whatsapp,and how does it work. Actually there wont happen anything,the action just takes a copies of your whatsapp conversation with a particular contact (just saving ur text or media conversation to other safe place ex gmail).
See for example if it is a business conversation,there will be some important text messages or codes or number in your whatsapp conversation by exporting the whole chat,you are taking the back up of that chat to some where safe like as i did mailing to my gmail,i exported a conversation of one of my friend and exported to gmail.
And there wont be notification sent to other person,if u export and someone asked this question earlier that will the other person know if i export a whatsapp chat. And as you asked where does it go,you can export it to mail ,or drive or some other place and its absolutely your choice.The chat will be in a text file(notepad).
